January 2014

Posted by catharine marshall on Saturday, January 25, 2014,

Well we re-opened this week after our annual break (which we really enjoyed) and it was definately a baptism of fire with the phone line, we struggled all Monday and Tuesday to keep up, and even had to go to answerphone as we could not keep up with the bookings for the Summer, so if you are planning your holidays in the school holidays, make sure you book your pets in as soon as you have booked your holiday.  We only take definate dates and so there is no point ringing with provisional dates!...

Posted by catharine marshall on Friday, June 21, 2013, In : June 2013

Well after a very long winter/spring, its appears the weather is now with us, although today is a little dank.  We have had our first fledglings yesterday, a nest of Wagtails were in the Woodlands block, and happily all 3 chicks fledged yesterday together with our resident Crows, Conrad and Connie who have also fledged 3 chicks, although much bigger than the Wagtails.  We are now waiting to see what the annual Swallows do, a little late starting this year.

The Tour of Britain

Posted by catharine marshall on Wednesday, September 12, 2012, In : September 2012

On Monday, 10th September we were lucky enough to have the Tour of Britain fly passed our place, we saw all the stars such as Bradley Wiggins, Mark Cavendish, Luke Rowe and all the British Sky Team.  We couldn't believe how many people came out to see them come down our hill, there was what looked like all of Heanor Gate's Seniors.  There was at least 40 Police Motorbikes riding in front performing a rolling road closure and the entourage that followed was beyond belief and that didn't includ...

The Chicks have arrived!

Posted by catharine marshall on Wednesday, June 20, 2012, In : June 2012

We were really pleased this lunchtime to see the Swallows feeding two young chicks in their nest.  We were worried that the pair had not returned and only had the male but after several anxious weeks we saw the pair and now much later than last year, we have seen the chicks in their nest being fed by Mum.  Hopefully they will fledge soon and leave time for another brood to grow strong before their long trip south.

Further to my earlier post, I can now happily confirm we have a pair of Swallows nesting in their old roost and the Jacks have been going absolutely bollistic chasing them up and down the garden, however they have developed an annoying habit of barking for them to come which we are trying to get them to stop to no avail!!!!  Hopefully we will have chicks soon, and if we are lucky get another two broods after that, we did last year.

Snow

Posted by catharine marshall on Saturday, February 11, 2012, In : February 2012

We have had quite a bit of snow up here and despite a week later there's no sign of it melting.  However, the dogs are loving it, all chasing snowballs and rolling in the snow.  We had four puppies in last weekend who all saw their first snow and absolutely loved it.  Apollo (3 month Dalmation) especially liked it as he was a fair weather walker but after the snow we couldn't keep him in.  Eddie and Mizzy (Jacks) have gone bolistic in it, Missy is the only dog I have ever seen that actually b...
